Ben’s background
I grew up in a small town in Wisconsin before going to college in Eau Claire, Wisconsin where I studied psychology, philosophy and religious studies. After working construction for a while, my family and I moved to Portland, Oregon where I trained for 2.5 years to become a therapist, which is what I have been doing over the last decade. After working for Mayo Clinic for 5 years I decided to open Mindful Counseling. The foundation of my approach in therapy is person-centered meaning that above all I seek to track with a patient’s experience moment to moment and help them access their inherent strength. I also been trained in EMDR as an approach to working with trauma and have focused much of my education in learning Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. I have worked in a number of outpatient therapy settings including college student counseling services, community mental health, and a hospital. I live in Forest Lake, MN where I enjoy spending time with my family, reading, experiencing nature and running in my spare time.
